Returning to My Art Blog: Sharing My Strange & Beautiful Worlds

After a long hiatus, I’m finally reopening this digital diary—my art blog—and it feels like coming home. Life has pulled me in many directions, but my sketchbooks have never stopped filling up with pastel goth monsters, eerie dreamscapes, and fashion-obsessed hybrid creatures. Now, I’m ready to share them properly again, starting with my latest work-in-progress: "Zombie" (see below for some sneak peeks!).

Why I’m Back (And Why I Left in the First Place)

I stepped away because sharing art online started to feel performative—like I was creating for algorithms instead of for the joy of it. But I’ve missed the conversations, the connections, and the thrill of putting something deeply personal into the world. So, I’m returning with a new approach: no pressure, no overthinking, just me and my weird little creations.

My Art Statement: A Love Letter to the Strange & Beautiful

For those new here (or who need a refresher), my work lives in the space where cuteness bites back:

New Art Explorations

"My art is a love letter to the strange and beautiful—where pastel goth aesthetics collide with Japanese street fashion, and monster girls roam dreamlike worlds. Drawing from my Brazilian roots and life in Canada, I blend vibrant colors with eerie softness, creating characters that are both playful and haunting. These hybrid beings challenge norms of femininity and identity, existing in a liminal space between cute and grotesque, innocence and rebellion.

Using acrylics, ink, and digital media, I build layered narratives inspired by anime, vintage horror, and fairy tales. My work invites viewers into a whimsical yet unsettling universe, where fragility and power coexist. Each piece is a celebration of the outsider, the misfit, and the beautifully monstrous."

Behind the Scenes: Zombie

Here is a glimpse of my latest piece " Zombie", acrylic on canvas 24x36 in.

This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of "Monster Girls," where cuteness defies mortality, and even the grotesque deserves a spotlight. Check out the finished piece here

This piece embodies everything I love: horror meets cuteness, fashion as armor, and the tension between "pretty" and unsettling.

What’s Next?

  • More WIPs: I’ll share progress on "Zombie" and other pieces—the messy stages included!

  • Process Deep Dives: How I mix traditional and digital, my favorite horror references, etc.

  • Cultural Threads: How Brazilian folklore and Harajuku street style sneak into my work.

  • Your Input: Tell me what you’d love to see—tutorials? More sketches? Let me know!

Let’s Stay Connected

I share daily snippets, process videos, and way too many horror movie screenshots on Instagram @ingridmunizart. Come say hi—I’d love to hear what strange and beautiful things you’re creating too.

Stay spooky (and sparkly),
